Q. What does a woman about to turn 30 have in common with a woman already turned 60?
A. Not much.
A. Not much.
That would be my answer until I met Ginger. We, luckily, wrote a different story. Ginger and I were coworkers first, who quickly turned into firm and forever friends and have managed to stay close for almost 5 years. Our friendship has survived and thrived across distances of age and geography.
Ginger and I do have much in common. We both believe being moms to two sons a heavenly state of being. We’ve both lived in North Carolina. We share the same profession – when we are practicing it. We both have earned the title, Spreadsheet Queen. We hate discord and flourish in an ordered world. I concede Ginger is the Olympian in creating such an environment! We share enjoyment of Alexander McCall Smith books.
However, we definitely part ways over sugar consumption. I can’t imagine Ginger downing a Coke for breakfast.
And how can I not love someone who thinks I resemble Tina Fey?! Or sends me beautifully hand printed, thoughtful notes that show her loving and lovely nature.
Ginger was my sister or my daughter (maybe even my mother!) in previous life. Well, that is what I would think if I actually believed in reincarnation. At any rate, she is very special to me.

Hi Ellen, I'm the lucky one to get to have such a fun and interesting person as you for a dear friend. Thank you for how you are so interested in my life and also so interesting and well-rounded in general - meaning I can ask you questions about books and walking and your sons and your work and there is always plenty to talk about and share about and for me to learn from. I am so thankful for the friendship we have and I know one day our paths will cross again somewhere in the South.
